JEEP & SINGLE TRACK WITH ROCKY SECTION

Early breakfast and ride through the picturesque town of Stellenbosch, with its charming character, historic architecture and oak-lined avenues, it is a must to visit on anyone’s itinerary.  The first farms were allocated before the end of 1679 and the village was formally established in 1685. Salut! A touch of France is coming our way in today’s ride as we will be heading toward Franschhoek. We will ride out of the Stellenbosch valley via the old tarred road of Helshoogte (close to traffic).

From the top of the path a mere 5km of descent into the Banghoekrivier valley will take us to the start of our mountain bike trail.

The trails are a combination of fast jeep and single tracks through lush green fields, orchards, well-kept farmsteads and wine estates.

Following the course of the Berg River, expect a rollicking ride before ascending the stunning Franschhoek Mountain slopes for the second serious ascent of the day, before yet another tricky descent towards home.

JEEP TRACK & SINGLE TRACK IN OVERBERG AREA

Be buoyed by the knowledge that today’s ride is the longest of all five days and not the easiest! Healthy breakfast followed by a short transfer to the top of the Franschhoek pass, for a scenic tarmac warm-up ride of 8km down to the purgatory, where we enter the Theewaterskloof nature reserve. The track around the dam is gentle and undulating, a variety of antelopes may be spotted as well as Eland and Cape Mountain Zebra. Conservative riding is best; don’t beat yourself up here as the main course of the day is still to come! We will have a short transfer of 30mn with the minibus to the start of our next MTB trail alongside the Groenlandberg nature reserve. The rich and diverse fauna and flora of the region make this an interesting route, with the many natural obstacles adding to the challenge. The trail will follow the track of an old wagon road linking the two valleys. As you gain height the views from the top of this pass are magnificent. On the way down grab your handlebars! some sections require technical ability and prudence. Our lunch stop will be at the Oak valley estate home of the famous Mountain bike stage race Cape Epic in 2015. After lunch you will have the option to carry on riding to our final destination of the day Houwhoek/Bot River or to call it a day and relax around the pool of the hotel.

Overnight in Houwhoek or Bot River

JEEP & SINGLE TRACK WITH SOME TECHNICAL SECTION

Breakfast at the Houw Hoek Inn or (guest house in Bot River), located on the site of a toll gate established in Dutch East and Indian days, it is the oldest hotel in South Africa. Situated in the heart of the Kogelberg reserve and world heritage site the Nature Reserve is one of the world's richest hot spots of biodiversity. Welcome to the Heart of the Cape Flora Kingdom (best viewing in spring from July to September)

The first part of our journey the track takes us down the historic Katpass to the village of Bot River and along the Botriver on single tracks that link the four historic cottages, follow by ondulating fast flowing trail.

The second part of the trail will require more focus with some technical single before arriving at the Hemel en Aarde valley..

The route is a mixed of single, jeep track and gravel road. Our mid day lunch stop will be in the Hemel en Aarde valley.

The rich and diverse flora and fauna of the region make this a stunning mountain bike trail. In November 2011 a young leopard had been photographed in the area.
