7 Day - 6 Night Tour

This seven day mountain bike tour takes you from Cape Town to Hermanus. Explore off the beaten track trails through the Winelands areas of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Grabow. Ride inlands and southwards towards the scenic Cape South Coast to Hermanus. Nowhere else in our country will you get a more diverse ride for your penny than in the Western Cape.

Enjoy a cable car ascent to the summit of Table Mountain, one of the most famous natural landmarks in Africa, head south along the Peninsula towards Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, Africa's most south-westerly point, observe the African Penguins at Boulders Beach, explore the verdant valleys of the Cape's Winelands, cross over the mountains to the most jealously guarded secret the "Whale Coast", watch the whales in Walker Bay (July to November) Some of our trail "honeypots" are tucked away in hidden belts of green relatively near urban civilization. Others are genuine wilderness rides, through nature reserves, up  magnificent mountain passes, zigzagging single tracks and speedy downhills. All have one key element in common, the stunning beauty and captivating rhythm that is unique to South Africa.

Technical single and steep jeep tracks will provide an exciting challenge designed for moderate to fit mountain bikers.

Breakfast and ride through the picturesque town of Stellenbosch, with its charming character, historic architecture and oak-lined avenues, it is a must to visit on anyone's itinerary. The first farms were allocated before the end of 1679 and the village was formally established in 1685. Salut! A touch of France is coming our way in today's ride as we will be heading toward Franschhoek.

Crank up into cloud country for your first killer climb of the day through shady plantations up the north slopes of Jonkershoekberg. From here, you descent into the Banghoekrivier valley, you will encounter the middle section of our trail winding its way past lush green fields, orchards, well-kept farmsteads and wine estates to refill our liquids...

Following the course of the Berg River, expect a rollicking ride before ascending the stunning Franschhoek Mountain slopes for the second serious ascent of the day, before yet another tricky descent towards home.

JEEP & SINGLE TRACK

Be buoyed by the knowledge that today’s ride is the longest of all seven days and not the easiest! Healthy breakfast followed by a short transfer to the top of the Franschhoek pass, for a scenic tarmac warm-up ride of 8km down to the purgatory, where we enter the Theewaterskloof nature reserve. The track around the dam is gentle and undulating, a variety of antelopes may be spotted as well as Eland and Cape Mountain Zebra. Conservative riding is best; don’t beat yourself up here as the main course of the day is still to come! We will have a short transfer of 30mn with the minibus to the start of our next MTB trail alongside the Groenlandberg nature reserve. The rich and diverse fauna and flora of the region make this an interesting route, with the many natural obstacles adding to the challenge. The trail will follow the track of an old wagon road linking the two valleys. The views from the top of this pass are magnificent, as you view the apple orchards below and gain a panoramic view of the valley. Grab the handlebars! Some sections require technical ability and prudence. Our lunch stop will be at the Oak valley estate home this year of the famous Mountain bike race the Cape Epic. After lunch our afternoon we will be spend riding the famous The Paul Cluver trails, starting in the amphitheatre with the Swing a bridge built on a massive tree trunk. The fun continues with lots of berms, flowing singletrack with some technical riding. Look out for the Mamba, a rollercoaster through a river valley with 6 bridges. There are some lung busting climbs rewarded with magnificent vistas over the Elgin valley. The Pofadder is a bermed bridge built from wine barrel slats at the foot of a waterfall followed by more great riding, loads of single-track and gravel roads linking all of the above make for a kick-ass ride.
