This ultimate Mountain Biking adventure combines two areas. Firstly, the Silvermine nature reserve and secondly, the Tokai Forest. The Silvermine mountain bike trail begins on a rough 4×4 jeep track. However, just 2 kilometers into the ride, the surface transitions to concrete strips, improving traction along this particularly steep section. At the summit, sweeping views greet you, offering a breathtaking reward for your climb. From this vantage point, however, the real excitement truly begins. . You’ll launch into a thrilling descent, spiraling through a series of S-bends that carve gracefully along the fynbos-covered ridge. Taking you a minute to zigzag all the way back finally arriving to the lac. A great swimming place in summer. Followed by a stretch of rocky and sandy single connecting us to level 5 Tokai Forest contour trail.
See the radio mast on top of the mountain? That’s where we’re heading. Like a sentinel, it guards the summit.
Expect a grueling stretch of gravel up as well as tarred into the last part of the climb. Small break gives us a chance to admire the spectacular views overlooking Tokai. Fast and furious are the way down and caution must be taken. It’s however an ideal test for man and machine against gravity. Your brakes will squeal and smolder in agony as they slow you down the many hairpin bends that punctuate the route. Hang on tight.
Once you reach the road fork, the gravel signals the imminent start of the single track. There are many natural features such as rock gardens, tree stumps and roots that comprise the single track. Tokai is held in high esteem for having hosted an ABSA Cape Epic prologue.
In conclusion, if you like the challenge this ultimate Mountain Biking adventure is for you. Most definitely not a “grand tourismo” ride. He will set you back for a good workout. To sum up, a mountain bike full day tour to remember.
