Cape Escape Mountain Biking Tours EST. 1995
About this Tour
Our mountain bike tour of Stellenbosch Jonkershoek nature reserve and the winelands is a thrilling and picturesque adventure. Situated a 45mn drive from Cape Town, the historical town of Stellenbosch is also known as the “City of Oaks”. Stellenbosch and South African wine are one and the same story. It ranks only behind Constantia in its wine-making heritage, but it eclipses it completely when it comes to variety. With over 150 cellars to choose from, it offers, therefore, the biggest variety of Wine Estates in South Africa. Stellenbosch is a renowned world-class wine region and Jonkershoek Valley is a stunning nature reserve. The combination of lush vineyards, majestic mountains and serene landscapes makes it an ideal destination for cyclists. The route entails cycling along a cycling path, jeep track and back country tared road.
The tour typically starts at the Jonkershoek nature reserve and finishes in the charming town of Stellenbosch. Known for its Cape Dutch architecture, vibrant student life and world-class wineries.
Firstly, Stark-Conde wine estate, nestled in the foothills of the idyllic Jonkershoek Valley with majestic mountains, lush fynbos and picturesque vineyards. Without a doubt it focuses on producing red wines with a particular emphasis on Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and other Bordeaux and Rhône varietals. The vineyards spread across the slopes of the valley, offering a patchwork of greenery against the backdrop. The second visit of the day, Lanzerac wine estate, is situated in a picturesque setting with stunning views of the Helderberg Mountains. Characterized by vineyards, lush gardens and historic Cape Dutch architecture, it creates a charming ambiance. Founded in 1692, the historical Lanzerac wine estate is without doubt synonymous with the home of Pinotage. We have a distinguished history with this unique South African grape variety.
Lastly, the visit to Stellenbosch. Time will be allowed for a short stroll in the town’s central area. Compact and easily navigable on foot, making it a walker’s paradise. There are many shops, boutiques, and markets where you can find unique souvenirs, local crafts, and fresh produce. The town’s charming atmosphere, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, makes it a fantastic destination for leisurely strolls and exploration.
In summary, our mountain bike tour in Stellenbosch offers an exceptional blend of adventure and culture, providing an unforgettable experience.

Cape Escape Tours has to be the best tour you could ever be on. Patrick makes your day. On timepick up, polite, knowledgeable, great driver. understands… read more the client, responds to any request, flexible. Full day tour to the cape of good hope with a great hike to the lighthouse. Had ample time for shopping and lunch. A wonderful stop @ Boulders Beach to visit penguins and a love at first site to see Simons Town. Was sad to leave at the end of the day. Any tour would be great but I’d say full days are the greatest. Going back to Cape Town I’d book everyday with him. Thank you Patrick for being amazing keep on being you as you are simply the best.

I had the pleasure to (try) the “Mini” peninsula all day tour. Patrick met me at the lower table car station at Table Mountain to start the tour. I was… read more his only guest, so we had lot’s of time to chat. Being in CT for 30 years and doing mtb for more than 15, Patrick definitely knows the ins and outs and is a very good guide.
The views and impressions, but also the inside informations on the tour were very special and even though I had to realise I would not make it back to the cable car station (I was around 250 / 1500 altitude meters short…), I still loved every meter I rode.
Patrick was kind enough to go on on his self to get his car, after which he fetched me and brought me to my car.
In a nutshell: Patrick is a very nice and fit guy you enjoy being around with that knows the Cape very well. I can recommend booking him–should I be travelling to CT again, I will do so myself!asseeger
