Mountain Biking Table Mountain Loop
Starting from the Iconic Slopes of Table Mountain
To begin our mountain biking adventure, the Table Mountain loop sets off from the iconic slopes of the mountain. From this starting point, riders are immediately immersed in the breathtaking scenery and challenging terrain that define the route. As a true playground par excellence, Table Mountain has repeatedly hosted the Cape Epic prologue. Consequently, we are fortunate to begin our ride at the foot of one of South Africa’s most famous natural landmarks.
Jeep Tracks and First Technical Descent
A combination of jeep track network traverses the steep slopes of Table Mountain with fun sections of smooth single track. As Tafelberg road becomes dirt, the route descends towards Cape Town University, soon becoming steeper and with loose gravel. The first single track and technical section of the day will test your bravery and skill in equal measure.
Into the Forest: Terrain Transitions and Caution
Being a mountain biker will most definitely help you relax and enjoy the ride. Once in the forest, the surface changes from hard compacted clay to wood chips. Early morning dew makes the surface slippery in short, don’t get too grabby with your front brake. The trail winds through indigenous vegetation known as Fynbos and follows the upper jeep track through Newlands Forest and Kirstenbosch. By then your legs may be protesting a bit therefore a little coffee break at Contantia Neck is welcome.
Scenic Descent and Coastal Ride
At this point, to get your legs back into action, we ride down a short tarmac downhill section, pass through Hout Bay’s exclusive neighborhood, and then climb up the old wagon trail. Finally, we follow a coastal tarmac road along the Atlantic Ocean and past Table Mountain’s 12 Apostles before returning to the trail.
Final Stretch: Rocky Climbs and Ocean Views
Keep the fireworks grand finale going for our final home stretch. This trail will test your skill with rocky semi-technical climbs, enough to keep your heart pumping. The great scenery with many viewpoints makes it difficult to keep your eyes on the track. There is nothing flat around Table Mountain for that reason remember to keep some matches for the end of your ride. Perfect for a good workout where fitness and skill levels are required.
Ride South Africa Iconic Table Mountain
Mountain biking around Table Mountain is not only an opportunity for an adrenaline adventure but also another key point to ride South Africa’s most iconic mountain.

On timepick up, polite, knowledgeable, great driver. understands… read more the client, responds to any request, flexible. Full day tour to the cape of good hope with a great hike to the lighthouse. Had ample time for shopping and lunch. A wonderful stop @ Boulders Beach to visit penguins and a love at first site to see Simons Town. Was sad to leave at the end of the day. Any tour would be great but I’d say full days are the greatest. Going back to Cape Town I’d book everyday with him. Thank you Patrick for being amazing keep on being you as you are simply the best.

I had the pleasure to (try) the “Mini” peninsula all day tour. Patrick met me at the lower table car station at Table Mountain to start the tour. I was… read more his only guest, so we had lot’s of time to chat. Being in CT for 30 years and doing mtb for more than 15, Patrick definitely knows the ins and outs and is a very good guide.
The views and impressions, but also the inside informations on the tour were very special and even though I had to realise I would not make it back to the cable car station (I was around 250 / 1500 altitude meters short…), I still loved every meter I rode.
Patrick was kind enough to go on on his self to get his car, after which he fetched me and brought me to my car.
In a nutshell: Patrick is a very nice and fit guy you enjoy being around with that knows the Cape very well. I can recommend booking him–should I be travelling to CT again, I will do so myself!
