Cape Escape Mountain Biking Tours EST. 1995
About this Tour
50 minutes outside Cape Town is Stellenbosch, the second-oldest town in South Africa. Most people think of Stellenbosch as a place for great food, wine and relaxation. However true, it is not all the town offers. Surrounded by mountain ranges and jaw-dropping natural beauties, Stellenbosch boasts, on the other hand, one of the best mountain biking scenes in the world. Situated a block away from Stellenbosch is the start of our full mountain bike tour of Bottelary Hills. Filled with stretching vineyards and farmlands. Game such as caracal, grysbok, grey duiker, porcupine, cape foxes and otters still roam naturally. It has technical areas and a few heavy climbs. With over 130km of trail network including 42km single tracks. It is therefore a paradise for cross-country enthusiasts.
Our mountain bike journey covers a distance of 50km with approximately 1000m of positive climb. It appeals to moderate to fit riders and can be challenging. Various loops connect to one “Main Route”. All in natural terrain, this carefully planned route offers a good mix from technical to flowy single track. Stellenbosch is a biker’s and wine lover’s paradise. Consequently, a wine farm well deserved midday lunch break is on our agenda. In a setting of unsurpassed tranquility and magnificent views is the Historic Manor house and country-style restaurant. My all-time favorite is the manor house burger!
The afternoon returns leg home takes us on a more friendly ride through the conservancy but often lulls riders into a false sense of security as mid-day oppressive heat settles. Isn’t home until it’s done.
The hallmark of the trails is the scenic beauty and incredible views of the Winelands, Table Mountain, False Bay and other surrounding areas. To conclude, a mountain bike tour to put a smile onto the face of every cross-country fanatic!
