Mountain Biking Bottelary Hills
Stellenbosch: More Than Just Food and Wine
While most people associate Stellenbosch with exceptional food, wine and leisurely relaxation there’s much more to discover. In fact, thanks to its surrounding mountain ranges and breathtaking natural beauty, Stellenbosch also happens to offer one of the world’s premier mountain biking scenes, making it a destination that caters to both indulgence and adventure.
Starting the Ride Through the Bottelary Hills
Just a block away from the heart of Stellenbosch lies the starting point of our full day mountain biking tour through the Bottelary Hills. From there, the route unfolds into a landscape filled with expansive vineyards and rolling farmlands, offering riders a picturesque and immersive experience from the very beginning.
Wildlife Encounters and Technical Trails
Game such as caracal, grysbok, grey duiker, porcupine, cape foxes and otters still roam freely. The mountain biking trails has technical areas and a few heavy climbs. With over 130km of trail network including 42km of single tracks. It is therefore a paradise for cross-country enthusiasts.
A Challenging and Rewarding Ride
Our mountain bike journey covers a distance of 50km with approximately 1000m of positive climb. It appeals to moderate to fit riders and can be challenging. Various loops connect to one “Main Route”. All in natural terrain, this carefully planned route offers a good mix from technical to flowy single track. Stellenbosch is a biker’s and wine lover’s paradise.
Midday Break at Zevenwacht Wine Estate
Consequently, a wine farm well deserved midday lunch break is on our agenda. In a setting of unsurpassed tranquility and magnificent views is the Historic Manor house and country-style restaurant of Zevenwacht. My all-time favorite is the manor house burger!
The afternoon returns leg takes us on a more friendly ride through the conservancy but often lulls riders into a false sense of security as mid-day oppressive heat settles. Isn’t home until it’s done.
Scenic Beauty and Unforgettable Trails
The hallmark of the trails is the scenic beauty and incredible views of the Winelands, Table Mountain, False Bay and other surrounding areas. In conclusion, this mountain biking tour is sure to leave every cross-country enthusiast smiling.

Cape Escape Tours has to be the best tour you could ever be on. Patrick makes your day. On timepick up, polite, knowledgeable, great driver. understands… read more the client, responds to any request, flexible. Full day tour to the cape of good hope with a great hike to the lighthouse. Had ample time for shopping and lunch. A wonderful stop @ Boulders Beach to visit penguins and a love at first site to see Simons Town. Was sad to leave at the end of the day. Any tour would be great but I’d say full days are the greatest. Going back to Cape Town I’d book everyday with him. Thank you Patrick for being amazing keep on being you as you are simply the best.

I had the pleasure to (try) the “Mini” peninsula all day tour. Patrick met me at the lower table car station at Table Mountain to start the tour. I was… read more his only guest, so we had lot’s of time to chat. Being in CT for 30 years and doing mtb for more than 15, Patrick definitely knows the ins and outs and is a very good guide.
The views and impressions, but also the inside informations on the tour were very special and even though I had to realise I would not make it back to the cable car station (I was around 250 / 1500 altitude meters short…), I still loved every meter I rode.
Patrick was kind enough to go on on his self to get his car, after which he fetched me and brought me to my car.
In a nutshell: Patrick is a very nice and fit guy you enjoy being around with that knows the Cape very well. I can recommend booking him–should I be travelling to CT again, I will do so myself!asseeger
